Moroccan Zellige Ancestral Moorish mosaic geometry from our Fez kilns

Zellige is the Moorish art of geometric tile mosaic — squares, triangles, stars, diamonds and polygons forming precise, hypnotic patterns; the craft became predominant in Morocco and Andalusia from the 11th century, and the Maallem tradition preserved it after the fall of Granada. RLI's tiles are handmade in its own factory in Fez: clay from the region is kneaded by hand, shaped into 4-inch tiles, sun-dried, glazed and fired in olive-pit kilns — each colour at its own temperature — then hand-cut piece by piece; a skilled cutter produces around 400 pieces a day. The company also designs and builds custom ceramic fountains to any size and ships worldwide.
